The objective of this Bachelor’s Thesis was to explore the advantages and disadvantages of using FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD operating systems on Sun UltraSparc hardware. The installation procedures, the usability and the performance of these operating systems are examined and illustrated using examples.

This study shows the performance of Sun UltraSparc10 – IIi hardware while using FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD operating systems and the installation details of these operating systems on Sun UltraSparc10 – IIi hardware.

In this study, the FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD operating systems were found tobe reliable and stable on UltraSparc but they were not as user friendly as SunOS and Linux for UltraSparc.
